Raising the Bar on Home Energy Efficiency

Arbor Otalora-Fadner: Arbor Otalora-Fadner is a Program Coordinator at the Center for Energy and Environment, supporting the launch of energy saving programs. Arbor has worked on the TISH energy disclosure initiative since 2020, developing outreach content and delivering presentations to build awareness and engage key stakeholders. Arbor has facilitated a variety of training courses for diverse audiences with offerings ranging from full day courses to short and focused modules.
Isaac Smith: Isaac Smith is a Residential Program and Development Manager at the Center for Energy and Environment, leading programming to cut energy waste and save money. Isaac has worked in the energy efficiency world for 10 years and successfully launched multiple initiatives, including designing an energy scoring system for older homes, a trade ally pilot for the popular Home Energy Squad program, and the Minneapolis TISH energy disclosure policy. Isaac routinely gives presentations to community groups, utilities, and manufacturers as a subject matter expert on green and sustainable technology.
Energy efficiency provides many benefits to homeowners, but they often go unadvertised during the real estate transaction. As indicated by a recent appraiser-led study of the Twin Cities, these benefits can translate to increased home value when marketed correctly. There are more tools than ever to discover energy efficient homes and features, such as through energy disclosure in Minneapolis, creating opportunities to stay ahead of the growing trend. This course explores how to recognize energy efficient homes and features and leverage their benefits in the real estate transaction.

Ryan Davis: Ryan Davis is the Director of Engagement, Diversity and Inclusion for the National Association of Realtors® where he leads the vision, strategy, and execution of diversity, equity and inclusion for the world’s largest trade association, serving 1.6 million members across 76 countries as well as more than 1,100 local and state REALTOR® associations. In his role, Ryan also collaborates closely with NAR’s partner organizations, including the Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA), National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP), National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB), and the LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance.
Prior to joining NAR, Ryan provided leadership in diversity, equity and inclusion in the higher education industry. Specifically, Ryan served as the Associate Vice President of Institutional Equity and Diversity at Brown University, Director of Assessment and Educational Programs at Purdue University, and as the Senior Program Manager for the Gates Millennium Scholars Program. Further, as a Senior Strategist for the University of California Race and Equity Center and Learning Faculty member for Meta (formally Facebook), Ryan has led large organizations through learning and development processes that have advanced organizational diversity, equity and inclusion goals.
Ryan holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Eastern Connecticut State University, and a master’s degree from in Higher Education from Old Dominion University. He has authored more than 20 publications on diversity, equity and inclusion matters. In 2020, Ryan was recognized as one of the 40 Under Forty honorees by Providence Business News.

David Arbit: David is the Director of Research and Economics at the Minneapolis Area Association of REALTORS®. He embodies a variety of roles stretching from research, forecasting, economic and policy analysis, media and industry relations as well as education, training and public speaking. He holds a Masters in Housing and Economic Development from the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute at the University of Minnesota. He has undergraduate degrees in Urban Geography and International Politics from Macalester College. He has spent time in the public, private, non-profit and consulting worlds.
Past posts include the City of Minneapolis economic development agency, the Family Housing Fund, the Greater Metropolitan Housing Corporation and the Center for Urban and Regional Affairs.
Since joining the Minneapolis Area Association of REALTORS® in 2010, David has been the Associations go-to person for local statistics and economy data, forecasting, research and public speaking. David is currently an approved CE instructor for several market-relate courses. In addition to his CE courses for credit, David is frequently sought after by our local media (print and radio) for his input on local economy trends and developments and frequently publishes blogs to our mplsrealtor.com Association website.
