How long have you been a Realtor® and a member of MAR/NAR?  What prompted your decision to become a Realtor®?

I have been a Realtor® for 21 years. My Grandma wanted to be a Realtor®, took the test four times, but she was only able to be an assistant to a male Realtor® in the 1950s-1960s in Omaha, Nebraska. I am the hope and the dreams she had – I am a real estate broker!

What do you enjoy most about teaching the continuing education course, Agency and Fair Housing Plus?

I love teaching about fair housing. It works with my core values. The class is very personal to me. My mom was unable to secure a home for our family due to unfair housing practices. I explain this in all of my classes.

What is an important fact about fair housing members should know?

That this is something we as Realtors® need to work on daily – unconscious and conscious biases live in all of us. Working to be aware of it and actively working to fix it should be a top priority for us all due to the dark history we as Realtors® played in the current system.

What is your proudest achievement or favorite memory as a Realtor®?

Helping my family become homeowners when only my grandma was the only homeowner in our family.

Do you have any advice for new agents?

Study the craft of real estate. Realtors® do more than just sell homes, we change communities.

If you could choose anyone as a mentor, who would you choose and why?

Dave and Gail Linger, Founders of RE/MAX. They help empower women Realtors®. Their legacy is powerful.

What was the first concert you ever attended?

The Jackson Victory Tour! I still remember the excitement of seeing them all in person and feeling like I could do anything after that!
