MAR Responds to Minneapolis City Council with Updated Comment Letter and Talking Points Tags: Government Affairs

The Minneapolis City Council has been considering changes to Tenant Screening and Security Deposit ordinances. A first draft had been previously circulated. The new draft was made public on Thursday, August 8, 2019.

Minneapolis Area REALTORS® submitted public comments to all (13) Minneapolis City Council Members and the Mayor’s office. REALTORS® have been taking a balanced view between inclusiveness and private property rights. A number of our proposed changes were incorporated in the new draft.

The first public hearing date is scheduled August 28 at 1:30 p.m. in the Housing Policy and Development Committee, which is chaired by Council Member Cam Gordon. Council Member Ellison is the committee vice-chair. Council Member Ellison and Council President Bender are the primary authors of the changes.
