Minneapolis Area Realtors® honors the life and legacy of Fran Davis, a longstanding industry leader who passed away on August 16, 2025. Fran’s influence stretched across the real estate industry and through decades of leadership at MAR, but it was the way she connected with people that truly made the mark she left on our community.
Fran began her real estate career in the mid-1980s and quickly rose as a leader. In 2000, she served as President of the Minneapolis Area Association of Realtors®, setting a tone of thoughtful, steady leadership that many would follow. Pat Paulson, a fellow MAR past president, remembered their very first finance committee meeting together: “At 10 p.m. the night before, we received a 30-page accounting document that we’d be reviewing together at 8:30 the next morning. But when the meeting started, Fran already had the whole thing marked up with notes. That has lived with me forever. She didn’t just show up—she was ready to contribute, always.”
Advocacy was one of Fran’s greatest passions, and she approached it through relationships. “She was always bigger, earlier, faster, sooner,” Pat said. “It wasn’t just about real estate—it was about people. Politicians knew her. Colleagues leaned on her. And when I had complicated issues as a MAR leader, she was someone I went to for advice.”
For many, Fran was the reason they got involved. “She was one of the first to encourage me to join a committee with MAR,” shared Rod Helm, another MAR leader who worked with Fran early on at Burnet’s (now Coldwell Banker). “She always encouraged me to stay at the table, even when it was tempting to walk away. I will really miss her. She was tremendously influential in volunteer work with the Realtors®. It is really the end of a very special era with her loss.”
Her leadership reached across generations. “Her thoughtful comments and encouragement of new leaders will continue to ripple forward for years,” said MAR CEO Carrie Chang. “The real lessons were the ones she taught by example, with her thoughtful comments in the boardroom and the way she encouraged generations of leaders to make an impact through service. Because of this, Fran’s impact will continue to multiply through the many seeds she planted at MAR over her decades of involvement.”
Fran’s sister, and current MAR board member, Barb Davis, has felt such support from the Realtor® community as well as the community at large. While knowing how special Fran was, Barb has nevertheless been amazed at the outpouring of love during this time. “Every single person has a story of how they met Fran and the way she got them involved in whatever she was doing. It’s astounding – the reach she had. Always quietly encouraging people, she was their rock.”
