Keep your membership active
Membership dues are collected at the time of membership activation, and dues renewals are billed annually. MLS fees are billed quarterly for MAR members, annually for non-member subscribers. Timely payments ensure you maintain access to services through Minneapolis Area Realtors®.
To make a payment online:
- Click Here to access the MAR Member Portal login page, and enter your username (typically your MLS ID or NRDS number) and password.
If this is your first time logging in, use your nine-digit NRDS number for BOTH username and password. - Click the blue ‘Pay Now’ button in the Account Balance box.
- In ‘Open Orders’, click the small box to the left of the order and then click ‘Pay Orders’ and follow prompts.

What is the annual cost of renewing my MAR membership?
Annual dues may vary depending on the type of membership held with the association. For existing agents and brokers, the cost is $651 per year as of 2026 and spans a full calendar year (Jan 1-Dec 31).

What are the two optional donations I see displayed on my account as part of my annual dues?
MAR Foundation Contribution.
The mission of the MAR Foundation is to partner with and provide support for local organizations that work to end homelessness in our community. We help non-profits that provide housing and housing-related programs and services to low-income families and individuals within MAR’s jurisdiction of Carver, Hennepin, McLeod, Scott and Sibley Counties.

Minnesota Realtors® Political Action Committee (RPAC) :
RPAC makes legislative advocacy possible, working to elect pro-Realtor® candidates at the local, state, and federal levels. This bipartisan committee is supported by voluntary contributions from Realtors® across the state and is committed to supporting candidates and issues important to your profession and your livelihood.
What is the National Advertising Assessment, and how much is it?
- The Special Assessment for the Consumer Advertising Campaign (formerly known as Public Awareness Campaign) is $45 through 2027.
- The assessment is billed to all active Realtor® members as part of their annual membership dues and is not prorated.
- NOTE: Institute Affiliate members, non-members salespersons and National Realtor® Emeritus, are exempt from this assessment.

Can I set up autopay for annual dues?
Realtor® membership dues are not able set up on auto-payment at this time.
Can annual dues be refunded?
Dues and Fees Refund Policy
- By submitting payment for your dues and fees, you acknowledge and agree to the terms of this Refund Policy.
- Annual dues and fees refund requests must be submitted in writing to in**@*********or.com and received by our office no later than December 31 of the current calendar year. After December 31, all dues and fees are considered non-refundable, with the exception outlined below.
- All voluntary donations are non-refundable.
- EXCEPTION FOR INACTIVE LICENSES
A refund may be granted after December 31 only if the individual’s license was officially deemed inactive before December 31. In this case, a written refund request must be submitted in writing to in**@*********or.com within 30 days of the licensee’s inactive status.
Processing of Refunds:
- Approved refunds, including those related to inactive licenses, will be processed within 5-7 business days of receiving the refund request. A $30 processing fee will be applied to all approved refunds of annual dues and fees.
Non-refundable items:
- Certain fees, such as administrative fees, setup fees, voluntary contributions or any other designated non-refundable charges, are not eligible for a refund, regardless of the circumstances.
What do I get from the association? Why would I want to stay a Realtor® member?

What happens if I don’t pay by December 31st
If you don’t pay by December 31, 2025, you will be assessed a $50 late fee.
If you are still unpaid after Jan. 5th, you will be assessed an additional late fee and have your membership inactivated. This means you will lose access to the MLS.
Your broker will have to make the decision on whether they want to keep your license active with their brokerage. If they continue to hold your inactive license, the brokerage is then out of compliance and the whole office is at risk of being shut off.
Can I get an extension for my dues payment deadline?
While the deadline is December 31, 2025, we won’t be inactivating memberships until January 6, 2026 (though you will incur a late fee). So you will have an additional five days before your membership is deactivated.
I don’t need the MLS. Can I cancel my membership?
Agents:
- Unfortunately, no. If you have an active license within a brokerage who holds Realtor® membership with MAR, you are required to follow your broker’s membership. There is a Non-Realtor Licensee option, however your broker needs to make that decision to shift your membership as they then assume responsibility for your dues. I’m happy to talk through your options with you and your broker.
Brokers:
- You can cancel membership for your brokerage – however, that means all agents in your office also lose membership.
- Failure to make payment can result in deactivation of membership for the entire brokerage.
- If a Broker wants MLS access but not MAR membership, non-member MLS subscription is an option!
What is the upfront cost of joining Minneapolis Area Realtors®?
It depends on when you join, as portions of your dues and fees are prorated by month. Visit our Dues page for a chart outlining this info.
Why did MLS fees increase this year?
- NorthstarMLS increased the monthly service fee for their subscribers. This is not related to non-member access to the MLS.
- To help offset this increase, the MAR board of directors chose not to increase association membership dues for this year.
- Office Support and Unlicensed Assistants MLS Fees: NorthstarMLS increased their cost for admin users to $150 per user due to increased vendor costs. MAR temporarily absorbed much of this cost in 2025 to help those affected plan accordingly, but the price increase is affecting members for 2026.
The Three-Way Agreement & Dues Policies
What is the Three-Way agreement?
The term “Three-Way Agreement” is the foundation of the Realtor® organization, established among the national, state, and local associations. This agreement grants state and local associations (and their members) to use the term “Realtor®” to describe licensed agent members.
In exchange, state and local associations must adhere to the NAR Code of Ethics of, enforce the Code of Ethics within their jurisdiction, and properly grant and regulate the use of the terms “Realtor® and Realtor® ASSOCIATE®.” The Three-Way Agreement means that local associations and their Realtor® members are also members of the state (MNR) and national (NAR) associations.
Why is the Three-Way Agreement in place?
The Three-Way Agreement has been in place for more than 100 years and empowers the Realtor® organization to use its combined resources and influence to have a unified, powerful voice in shaping public policy, setting recognized standards for ethical real estate practice, and contributing to the betterment of the real estate industry. This federated structure fosters unity and allows for a coordinated, collaborative approach on achieving our collective mission of protecting, preserving, and advancing property rights for all.
Is it possible to only pay local and state dues and not NAR dues?
Unfortunately no: Being a Realtor® means being a member of the National Association of Realtors®. And because of the Three Way Agreement, all MAR Realtor®® members are automatically also part of the state and national associations. To maintain Realtor® membership, members must pay local, state, and national association dues and assessments. There is no ability to bifurcate membership between local, state, or national associations.
I see that other brokerages are no longer requiring their agents to be members of NAR. How do I implement this change at my brokerage?
The decision to require agents to be members of NAR has always been at the discretion of the Broker. NAR cannot and does not require brokers to mandate membership in the Realtor® organization. Click here to learn about your options with MAR membership and how to make a change: Choosing a Membership
Are there any Realtor® associations that I can join that don't require me to belong to NAR?
No. There are non-member brokerages you can join, but the term Realtor® is a registered trademark of the National Association of Realtors® and only local and state associations enforcing NAR’s trademark, membership qualifications, and Code of Ethics are considered Realtor® associations. All local and state Realtor® association members are members of the National Association of Realtors®
