Maintaining high ethical standards has been at the center of the Minneapolis Area Association of REALTORS® (MAAR) since the organization began in 1887. Members of MAAR and several other local and state associations around the nation developed the first national Code of Ethics which was adopted in 1913.

According to author Pearl Jane Davies, who wrote a history of the REALTOR® movement some years ago, ". . .the national real estate organization may claim to be the second trade or business group in the United States to follow examples of the professions of medicine, law and engineering in formulating a Code of Ethics."

The Professional Standards Committee of the Minnesota Association of REALTORS® enforces the Code of Ethics.
