FAQ for Reciprocity with Other Associations

The Duluth Area Association of REALTORS® recently joined the Supra electronic keybox system, widening the area where MAAR members can use their electronic keys to show listings. We've created this FAQ (frequently asked questions) for Supra key/keybox reciprocity questions.

What is a Reciprocal Electronic Key?
Reciprocal Electronic Key participation is available to MAAR members when they are showing listings of other nearby REALTOR® associations that also use the Supra electronic key system. After their reciprocity form is processed and they have updated their key, members have the option to use their DisplayKEY or eKEY when showing listings of other members belonging to the following associations:

Duluth Area Association of REALTORS® (DAAR)
Greater Alexandria Area Association of REALTORS® (GAAAR)
REALTOR® Association of Southern Minnesota (RASM)
Southeast Minnesota Association of REALTORS® (SEMNAR)
St. Cloud Area Association of REALTORS® (SCAAR)

How do I apply for reciprocity?
Start here: www.mplsrealtor.com/member_keybox_reciprocity.aspx. Read the instructions to locate and process the form you need.

How long does the process take?
Some reciprocal associations may need up to 48 hours (two business days) to process your request. To ensure that your key will work in the reciprocal area when you need it, please fill out the appropriate form and fax it at least two business days before your showing.

What do I need to do after I send my form to MAAR?
After the reciprocal association has entered your information in their system, you will need to manually e-sync twice in a row to update your key for their system. From then on, your key will update as part of your normal update.

What about compensation?
Signing the reciprocity form does not automatically provide for unilateral cooperation and compensation between real estate brokers:

  • Listings that appear on the MLS Co-op under the respective associations have a guaranteed offer of compensation.
  • Listings that do not appear on the MLS Co-op: Cooperation and compensation can be obtained by joining the MLS for that specific market and/or by contacting individual brokers in advance of a showing to make compensation arrangements.

Can I purchase, give, sell or loan an iBox to/from another member?
Yes, members may transfer iBoxes that they own to other active Supra participants. The iBox owner will need to contact MAAR to complete the transaction. Please fill out  this transfer form and fax it to 952.933.9021.

MAAR will then transfer the iBox(es) to the new owner. Members loaning iBoxes to other members do not need to complete the transfer form, and loaning does not violate any rule. To change shackle codes, bring the iBox(es) into MAAR during regular business hours or use an eKEY. Please verify that the iBox(es) is/are owned by the individual member (not leased) and is coded for the Twin Cities area. Any iBoxes from associations other than the Twin Cites area will not have the correct coding.

If a member wishes to sell their iBox out of state, they will need to deprogram it at the association before they send it.  Due to Supra’s security measures, the association must use a device that will allow the iBox to be used by people outside the association and the state.

For additional questions, please contact MAAR at info@mplsrealtor.com or 952.933.9010.
